About Us

Dance Studio in Honolulu, HI

Established in 1986, Honolulu Dance Studio developed from an eight-member dance troop based out of "Danceworks" Dance Studio in the Kaimuki neighborhood. The group, founded by Director Cathy Watson-Izumi, was originally named the Honolulu Gurlz Dance Company.

This young, energetic performing team was dedicated to training in excellence and entertaining throughout the Hawaiian Islands at various community and outreach events. In 1991, the dancers were invited to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Disney World in Orlando, Florida. This invitation to perform marks the beginning of the group's national and international exposure.
The dance team developed into a multi-genre instructional school, that includes:
  • Boogie Down Productions: An all styles hip hop studio directed by Jared Ake
  • Classical ballet program: Directed by Ballet Mistress Miss Elizabeth Miller
  • Jazz, lyrical, and contemporary training
Today the Honolulu Dance Studio strives to continue developing a culture of excellence through dance. Reach out to our dance studio in Honolulu, HI, to connect with our experienced dance instructors.
